About the Series
The LEAF Webinar Series is a four-part series. If you are unable to attend all four sessions, you are still able to sign up.
Understanding Health Insurance – Health insurance doesn’t have to be confusing. Understand the terms you need to know, and how to pick a plan that works for you and saves you money.
Decisions About Work – This webinar discusses dealing with work and a medical condition, including how to continue working during treatment, take time off, replace lost income, understand retirement options, and balance the health insurance and financial implications of each decision.
Getting Organized – Learn practical tips for getting organized, including gathering tax documents, finding child care, completing household chores, and managing bills and other paperwork. We will also cover how to stay organized using tools like planners and calendars, mobile apps and other technology, and more.
Being Prepared – Planning ahead can be overwhelming and can often bring up topics that are difficult to discuss. However, being prepared can also bring a sense of comfort. This seminar will cover the various documents that can make up an estate plan and tips to consider while planning ahead for your health care and your finances.
Session 1: Understanding Health Insurance:
- Attendees will be able to explain the basic terms used in health
insurance. - Attendees will be able to calculate the maximum annual cost of a plan.
- Attendees will be able to delineate what to take into consideration when
choosing a health insurance plan.
Session 2: Decisions About Work:
- Attendees will be able to explain how the American Disabilities Act
(ADA) and Family Medical Leave act (FMLA) can help employees work
through treatment or take time off - Attendees will be able to identify the types of disability insurance and tips
for applying - Attendees will be able to delineate key considerations for making
decisions about work when dealing with a medical condition
Session 3: Getting Organized:
- Attendees will be able to identify practical tools and tips for staying
organized to maintain financial health - Attendees will be able to explain methods to effectively manage medical
bills - Attendees will be able to articulate strategies for accessing practical
assistance to improve quality of life while dealing with a medical condition
Session 4: Being Prepared:
- Attendees will be able to explain the four main documents that can make
up an estate plan - Attendees will be able to describe options to protect their medical
decision-making rights - Attendees will be able to article other practical things to consider when
creating an estate plan

Research Study
Triage Cancer and Los Angeles Public Library are collaborating with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to host these educational webinars. ANYONE is welcome to register for and attend these webinars, even if they are not an individual affected by cancer.
We are seeking individuals affected by cancer (this includes cancer patients, cancer survivors, or caregivers of someone affected by cancer) to participate in a survey research study to learn more about how this educational information may help people affected by cancer and how it can be improved for future participants. The study will involve registering for and attending at least one webinar and completing 3-6 electronic surveys sent to your e-mail. The total duration of the study is 3 months and participants will spend up to 4 hours participating in the webinars and up to 3 hours completing online surveys. Participants will receive an electronic gift card for completion of each survey for a maximum of $130 total.
